NORTH COAST BEACHES

The beaches of the Dominican  Republic are the number one attraction and top of the list for almost all tourists and expats that come to visit, the allure of the crystal clear warm waters may even convince you to stay!

365 days a year, the beach is always open.

The pristine beaches are always walkable, some for miles of uninterrupted beauty, from white sands to golden candy carmel, the shores of the island are only enhanced by sunrises and sunsets. As you travel the island, you will find beach towns that are welcoming and inviting, you can lounge in a comfy chair while being catered to, or you can find your own private beach all to yourself.  There are many hideaway beaches in the Dominican Republic, with untamed natural breathtaking beauty.  The North Coast of the island has many public beaches as well as resorts that will share some sand with you, and it never seems to be crowded even in high season. 

Here are a few of the beautiful beaches of the north coast.

 THE BEACHES OF PUERTO PLATA

COFRESI BEACH is located 3 miles west of the city, with gorgeous white sand beaches, Cofresi is tucked into a cove and is home to Ocean World Marina surrounded by a man-made rock seawall and the famous Ocean World Adventure Park.

LONG BEACH is located in Costambar and starts at the Fort San Filipe Historical sight to Avenida Hermanas Mirabal street in Puerto Plata. The warm waters are inviting with the sand smooth under your feet, and miles of walkable beach, a tree line of palms and local trees hide the hustle and bustle of the streets.  Dotted along the way you find bar huts for a snack or cool beverage.

LA PLAYA DE MAIMON
Protected in Amber Cove in Puerto Plata, there are many private spots to take in the sun, sand and sea.  Amber Cove is home to the Amber Cove Cruise Terminal for visitors welcomed to Puerto Plata and the island via cruise ships.

 PLAYA DORADA is not only world renowned for its 5 star golf and country club, but the beaches are spectacular with many spots for entertainment, lounging and just soaking in the sun. 

THE BEACHES OF SOSUA

PLAYA SOSUA -the most popular public beach in Sosua, is nestled in the Bay of Sosua, protected from most winds and seas, this is an excellent spot for snorkeling, banana boating, swimming and laying on the wide open horseshoe shaped beach.  There are many vendors for food, souvenirs and drinks along the topside of the beach walkway.
PLAYA ALICIA-Isolated yet close to the bustling center of Sosúa, Playa Alicia is one of the DR’s most recent beaches, formed over the last decade from sand shifting over to this location. Also known as the “miracle beach,” its ultra-wide, blond stretch sits below a couple of restaurants and cafés, but there are no other developments or vendors directly on the beach. It’s a great place for a quiet swim and to catch a vibrant sunset.

There are many resorts and communities that have their own private beach in the township of Sosua, such as, Casa Marina Beach Resort, Hotel Playa Laguna, Sosua Ocean Village, Sea Horse Ranch, among the most popular and Perla Marina offering a public beach area with cabana rentals and great food.


BEACHES OF CABARETE

Only 15 minutes from the international airport in Puerto Plata, is the beautiful township of Cabarete. There are five popular beaches in Cabarete.

Encuentro, is usually a windy beach area and point of land, it looks out on the Atlantic Ocean as far as the eye can see, with long wide walkable beaches.

Cabarete Beach and Kite Beach are where surfing is an amazing spectacle, home to world famous kite-surfing, boarding and sailing. The golden sands of Cabarete are parallel to the town, where you will find almost everything you need.

Also visit the sandy beaches and warm waters of Bozo Beach and Punta Boleta in Cabarete, all walkable and inviting.
