North Coast Golf Courses
The Dominican Republic has about 20 golf courses across the island with plans of more to come. We are going to discover the North Coast courses and what they have to offer our tourists, expats and locals for year round golfing.
A very popular course is the 18 hole Playa Dorada Golf Course, located in Puerto Plata on the north coast. It was built in 1979 by Robert Trent Jr. and offers all the quint essentials any golfer would find in a world class golf course, mature palms, coconut and mahogany trees add that true Caribbean feel, with spectacular mountain and ocean views The course measures 6990 yards, with a challenging terrain, bunkers and ponds. Par is 72, with a slope of 134. It is open year round and offers a stimulating course for pros and amateurs. Enjoy fine dining in their restaurant and visit the pro shop.
Playa Grande is an exclusive private community with a magnificent golf course located along the coast of Rio San Juan and Cabrera. This course hugs the coastline of ledged untamed cliffs and awe inspiring views overlooking the crescent shaped Playa Grande Beach that stretches for a mile. Golfers can enjoy this world class golf course built by legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr, and reinvented by his son, Rees Jones in 1997. It offers a challenging, yet balanced experience, with 12 holes directly overlooking the ocean over the majestic cliffs. As a member you are invited to the Clubhouse, for fine private dining, a bar and cigar lounge overlooking the of Playa Grande beach.
Las Aromas or Santiago Golf Club, is located just outside of Santiago, Dominican Republic on the west side of the city. This public golf course of 18 holes, offers degrees of elevation, a few water traps on the par 3’s, and bunkers along the fairways are fairly light. The area is a tree-lined park-like setting, bringing the peacefulness expected. The course flows with gentle rolling hills making the layout challenging. On higher elevations enjoy the views of Santiago and Yaue del Norte River.
Los Mangos Golf & Beach Resort is located in Puerto Plata in the town of Costambar. This 9 hole executive course opened in 1986 and was remodeled in 2001. This very scenic course is lined with mangos, coconut trees and lime trees, the beach is only minutes away. It measures 3,300 yards, par is 35. Challenging, fun for the entire family and open year round.
