If you have decided that being a tourist in this beautiful country is not enough time spent in the Dominican Republic, you may venture out to find a nest of your own to rent.

Keeping in mind that you will need to apply for residency if you determine that you want to live here permanently. There is a wide variety of accommodations available for every budget when looking for a place to lay your hat. 

Prices can range from a few hundred dollars a month to several thousand, depending on what you have in mind for yourself or family.  Sosua, Cabarete and Puerto Plata are very popular locations for expats, there are large communities throughout the island, but a vast majority live in these 3 cities on the north coast.  

If you like to venture out into the barrios (the country side) your budget will be less for renting a space, but conveniences may not be up to North American standards.

 Most buildings in the major and popular areas will provide Internet, cable, WiFi, hot water, electricity and many places come furnished from bedding to kitchenware.  Most people negotiate a short term price or long term price for rent and deposits are usually expected.  Some places expect leases to be signed, but this is not the usual case. The prices for rent vary greatly during high season as compared to low season, so make your move appropriately to save yourself a lot of moving around, time and money.
